1971 Subaru Station Wagon original vintage advertisement.
    DESCRIPTION:
Our wagon, complete, is ,098.40. The whole shebang. And that

s 2 doors more than Toyota. 0 less than VW..
No noisy little engine for us. Ours is horizontally opposed. It hummmmms along.
Power to the front wheels! We've got front-wheel drive.
On corners, curves, ice, snow, grovel, all the skiddy spots — it's control no rear-wheel drive can give.
    Thunk. Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.
    4 doors, count 'em. 4.
2 better than some we know.
    And a lot more air.
4 real windows, not to mention 2 side-vents up front.
    Say, 25 m.p.g.? Regular gas?
And a gas tank placed midship for safety?
    Yes, yes. yes!
No fan, no fan belt, no fan noise. Hooray! Since it takes a heap of hp to drive a fan, aren’t we smart, using our hp to drive our wagon instead?
How we keep it cool? With some genius engineering: two radiators and an automatic device that takes over when the going gets hot.
Racing cars and Subaru wagons have rack-and-pinion steering.
A very sporty 4-on-the-floor. Nice short throws, gear to gear to gear to gear.
Inboard brakes up front, people. Which lead to a remarkable stable ride.
And make our wheels so quick and light, it's like having power-steering.
    Only cheaper.
Slip into something small. Our wagon's turning circle is no bigger than our car's: 31.5 easy little feet.
Of course you know about our anatomical, adjustable, and ahhhh, reclining front seats.
But do you know about our folds-up-flat-against-the-front-seat back seat?
That lets the floor behind tretch into 'well over 5 long flat-bottomed fee? (not counting the tailgate).
    Because there is no hump?
And how we beat the bumps with independent suspension on all 4 wagon wheels?
    You know now.
    We've got a wagon-load of visibility. See?
Not only does our hatch lift up. but…
Wow! A wagon our size and price with a tailgate you can open. A loading platform only about 15" from the ground. Wow indeed!
And goodness knows how much less than one of Detroit's little darlings.
The Subaru is one helluvawagon. At 70 mph it doesn’t even breathe hard.
