Having trouble sourcing Germanium transistors for your next project? We've located a large supply of these and are passing them on at great prices! Brands / markings may vary from transistor to transistor; to ensure quality/consistency, all of these are tested prior to being sent out and are guaranteed to be in fully-working condition. These Chinese Germanium transistors are
notoriously
finicky and many of the batches we've gone through have had up to 40%-50% DOA, which is never fun...we're taking the guesswork out of this by testing all of these ahead of time.
These are often used for vintage guitar effects (like the Germanium Fuzz Face or Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster) or vintage-
style
effects (like the awesome Fuzz Factory), but they can be a pain to locate. Like all PNP Germanium transistors, 3AX31B's vary greatly in terms of their forward gain / leakage measurements (among other specs), but I've personally found the 3AX31B's to work well in a variety of guitar effect boxes and other audio equipment because of their more ample gain when compared with many of the other NOS Germanium transistors that are floating around online...compared to the NOS Soviet-production ones that we've tried recently (MP13B, MP20A, MP25A, MP26A, GT308V, and P416A) and to other NOS American batches (2N270, AC126, AC127, AC128, 4JX1D610), the 3AX31B's have higher average hFE's, which is why we keep coming back to them! We have had 3AX31A's, 3AX31C's, and 3AX31E's come through as well, and honestly they're about equivalent to the 3AX31B's as far as I've seen.
