    Description

    An estate found,
    late nineteenth century ornate reticulated hallmarked English sterling silver three-part nurse’s belt buckle
    – offered with no reserve and a low opening bid!
    The buckle measures 5-11/16” wide overall x 2-3/16” high  on the ends and has a weight of
    84.6 grams
    .
    It’s constructed in three parts – the section with the tongue, the middle with the clasp and the third section which is hinged to the middle. All three sections are fully hallmarked with a
    Rampant Lion
    for sterling silver; a
    Leopards Head
    for London; a
    small date letter
    a
    for the year 1896
    and a
    maker’s touchmark
    H

    on the ends, again see close-up. The design is Victorian with openwork scrolls, flowers and two pierced medallions on the sides with embossed fan-shape stylized fern motifs.
    Condition:
    this is a pre-owned late nineteenth century sterling nurse’s belt buckle that has been worn. It has light wear from normal, gentle use – no breaks, touch-ups or repairs. The patina of the silver is shiny as it’s recently been hand polished – but not overly so, it has the soft glow of antique sterling; the hinge works smoothly and the clasp opens and closes properly.
