    This saucer a beautiful example of  Moriage style Dragon Ware. Dragon Ware refers to a specific type of Moriage which depicts dragons, each tendril and scale raised – not with gilt but often in white or black. The most common pieces of Dragon Ware are tea sets, teapots, and vases.
    The term Moriage refers to the technique of raised, trailed-slip decoration. It was widely used to decorate all kinds of pottery made in Asia. The best-known Moriage may be newer Japanese Dragon Ware. "The Hinode" refers to a company in New York that imported Japanese made art. Each piece has "The Hinode and Japan, hand painted on the bottom, though on many of the pieces, the green colored "Japan" has faded.
