Cerussite (Hue) - Handmade Oil Paint - 40ml

Description

Cerussite is the natural form of Lead Carbonate (which is known as Lead White). Natural Lead White looks and behaves very similarly to synthetic Lead White but it is even more warm and off-white to its manmade counterpart. Historically speaking Lead White is the most important white color in history and is the first practical white color to be used. In modern times lead based colors can still be found but they are less common due to laws on toxicity and the price tends to be high.
It is so far impossible to 100% imitate lead white with a mixture, but I feel I am offering a unique imitation. Many lead white imitations are usually a combination of titanium white and zinc white and possibly some sort of drier or filler pigment to speed the drying and alter the handling characteristics. My Cerussite hue contains Zirconium Oxide (PW12) as my white pigment instead of titanium or zinc. PW12 has the advantage of being more archival than zinc white and more transparent than titanum white. It has an off-white pearlescent look to it and is about the same as lead white in terms of transparency. There is also a subtle hint of warmth and it also dries fast- 2 characteristics of lead white oil paint.
