Lapis Lazuli (Hue) - Handmade Oil Paint - 37ml

Description

This tube of oil paint is my take on natural ultramarine (Lapis Lazuli). Before synthetic Ultramarine Blue was developed in the 1800's artists relied on the genuine precious stone Lazurite to create this color. The hue that you got from the stone depended on how much of the true blue color was extracted from the stone, this was a very laborious process. Unlike some of my other hues that I make, you can still get genuine Lapis Lazuli on the market, but it is very expensive. With my hue I am aiming to get an earth toned Ultramarine Blue that behaves and looks similar to the real thing for an affordable price.
My pigment formulation for this hue is similar to the composition of genuine Lapis Lazuli in the sense that my hue contains synthetic Ultramarine Blue, and also contains marble dust (calcium carbonate) which is one of the common impurities found in genuine Lapis Lazuli. The marble dust also aides in giving the paint a slightly more earthy texture, like the real thing. I also include a small amount of genuine Indigo to my mixture to add a darker and more earthy hue to the appearance of my paint.
All of my colors are handmade without additives. No driers, fillers, brighteners etc. Just pigment and oil.
