Description
This antique oil paint box is a true gem of a find. The paints and materials were manufactured by LeFranc & Bourgeois, a French based company. I have taken it upon myself to individually photograph the contents of the box, but I have only separately photographed what I consider to be the most note worthy of the oil paint colors. I will give a brief rundown of the contents per picture.Picture 1
-Full set
Picture 2
-Most note worthy colors. Left to Right - Indian Yellow (Imitation), Emeralda Green Shade, French Red (Vermilioned), Iv 0ry Black, Ultramarine No. 2 Light
The first 3 colors are vintage hue colors for 3 of the worlds rarest colors (Indian Yellow, Emerald Green, Vermilion). The 4th color is likely genuine Iv 0ry Black (made from charred ele -phant iv 0ry), and the 5th color is a pristine Ultramarine Blue, the synthetic counterpart to the rare Lapis Lazuli.
Picture 3
-A few genuine rare colors in amazing condition- Cobalt Blue and Cerulean Blue.
Picture 4
- A couple more noteworthy colors. Left to Right- Vintage Titanium White (this is right around the time when Titanium White became commercially available, so this is an early example), Iv 0ry Black (likely genuine), Indian Yellow (Imitation).
Picture 5
-4 vintage paint medium bottles. Left to Right- Painting Varnish (still has liquid), Unknown (possibly oil? - the liquid inside is in a vintage medical prescription container), Retouching Varnish (dried chunks inside), Not Sure? Smells like turpentine though.
Picture 6 and 7
- Looks to be charcoal drawing sticks. In great condition, inside and out. Most sticks untouched, a few broken.
Picture 8
- Odds and ends. Looks to be an eraser, metal plate and a vintage piece of linen canvas.
Picture 9
- Stunning vintage palette knife and brush, both in great condition and still usable.
Picture 10
- Vintage palette, mostly clean with some paint on it.
Picture 11
- Paper with color swatches on it from the original owner.
Most tubes are soft and usable, caps likely stuck. Overall great condition considering age and great variety. Please contact me if you have any further questions.
This set is great for the serious collector!
