Listed for sale here is a Lenovo SAS-2 Expander daughter card adapter, part number 03X3834. It has 2x "input" SFF-8087 (8x SAS lanes) ports that connect to a compatible SAS controller (HBA or RAID), and provides 4x SFF-8087 ports (16x SAS lanes) to connect to hard drives. This allows you to expand the number of hard drives you can connect to with your SAS controller without having to add another SAS controller.
These units have been updated to firmware version 013A.
I have fully tested these units in my server with an LSI SAS2008 based HBA SAS controller running ZFS on Linux. If you need an HBA to go with this, please check out the "
