Cultures are currently FRESH.
You will receive one LIVE Fruit Fly Culture.  Melanogaster.  Use the culture until the larvae, food, is gone and the colony is dying off.  Assemble your new culture.  Everything you need is included.  You use the last remaining flies (start with at least 50), water, and the kit contents.  Follow the instructions below.  There you have it.  A brand new culture!
Shipment includes:
(1) Fruit Fly culture with flies.
(1) 32 oz cup
(1) vented lid
excelsior
(1/2) cup media
Mix 1/2 cup of media with 3/4 cup of boiling water.  Mix well.
Add excelsior and cover with vented lid.
Let cool.
When cooled add 50-80 flies.
Allow culture 2 weeks or so to start producing larva before using to feed.
Some wintertime advice.  In the winter people are using heat in their homes.  Heat dries the air and will dry your culture media.  This may then cause surface mold to appear on the media.  If you get any, don't worry.  Spray some chlorine free water into the culture.  This will remoisturize the media and the mold will go away.  You can still feed the flies like normal.  To combat this from happening at all, keep your culture in an area with higher humidity.  Easiest way is to simply place them in a Sterlite drawer.  The small drawers and Sterlite material hold in the humidity from the culture.
