Description
A pair of hand painted and incised plates by Nora Gulbrandsen. Made in Norway. Signed NoraG and dated 1952 on the back. A creamy glaze covers a reddish clay as exposed on by the incised signature. Each plate features a fish and kelp. Slight crazing appropriate to the age and faience glaze. Measures 10” across. No chips or cracks, the glaze is shiny.
Nora Gulbrandsen was the artistic leader at Porsgrund porcelain factory from 1928 to 1940 and operated a ceramics workshop in Oslo from 1946. In 1951, Gulbrandsen had an exhibition at the Museum of Art and Design in Oslo.
