Ornate Antique Victorian Gold-Filled Floral Embossed Mechanical Sash/Belt Buckle

An estate found,
nineteenth century Victorian mechanical sash buckle with high relief floral embossed gold-filled top
– offered with no reserve and a low opening bid!
The buckle measures 3/5” long end to end x 7/8” high x 7/17” deep and weighs
27.8 grams
.
Unmarked but most likely American made,
circa 1880
. The construction is unusual – there is a small notched steel (or iron) lever on one end when pushed down releases the hinged top which covers the prongs of the buckle in the closed position.
Condition:
this is a pre-owned antique gold-filled sash buckle that has been worn. It has light wear from gentle, normal use. The lever/catch works, the hinge operates smoothly as does the moveable bar with the prongs. The patina of the gold-filled top is shiny with excellent detail to the floral embossing and the repousse border.
