Orpiment (hue) - Handmade Oil Paint - 40ml

Description

Orpiment is a golden lemon yellow derived from a naturally occurring poisonous mineral. Very popular during medieval and renaissance painting, but has since fallen out of popularity due to its toxic arsenic content. Along with the original colors toxicity was its reactive nature with other colors, particularly with colors containing copper causing the mixture to go brown/ black over time.
My Orpiment imitation is a transparent, pasty, matte leaning lemon yellow that is completely lightfast and nontoxic. My version is a bit more saturated than the original.
