Scheele's Green (hue) - Handmade Oil Paint - 40ml

Scheele's Green was one of the first synthetic colors produced during the color boom of the Victorian era and was made in an effort to improve upon the greens at the time. At the time of Scheele's Green's creation Malachite was generally considered the go-to green if you wanted a saturated green. Scheele's Green did yield a beautiful saturated slightly dark yellow-green that would make itself the preferred green of the time (early 19th century) but it had its drawbacks. The obvious drawback (which was overlooked at the time) was its heavy arsenic content making it very toxic. The drawback that really pushed for its replacement was its reactivity with sulfur based colors as well as its instability in binders. It was eventually replaced by the more well known Emerald Green some decades later. Emerald Green was a slight improvement, but had all of the same issues more or less.
My Scheele's Green handles like my Emerald Green for the most part and the recipe is very similar but Scheele's us darker and more yellow leaning.
