    Description

This is a pair of heavy vintage metal buttons of a low quality white metal alloy given a gilt finish. The depiction is of Merovee (Merovech in English),
    king
of the Salian Franks from whom Frankish tradition held the
    Merovingian dynasty
to have taken its name. He was the father of
    Childeric I
    (d. 481/482) and grandfather of
    Clovis I
    (
    c.
466–511). It is hard to read the name on the border, as the details in this button are not crisp (the second image is a better 'in person' likeness of the buttons). Measuring 1 & 3/16" and 9/16" across. There is some wear to the finish.
    Note: pics enlarged for detail.
